IUE-CWA LOCAL 201 GE CONTRACT 2011 REPORTS

GE CONTRACT 2011 REPORT - #4

In the Wednesday May 25th morning session, the Company gave an approximately 2 hour detailed presentation of their salaried "Health Choice" Plan. Union negotiators asked no questions and made no comments during or after the presentation. IUE-CWA Conference Board Chariman Bob Santamoor, following the lenghty presentation, simply said "thanks but no thanks and see you this afternoon". The session ended.

In the afternoon session, the Union presented their contract language demands calling for improvements in overtime provisions, 10% night shift differntial for everyone immediately on being hired, improved progression schedules, organizing neutrality and stronger seniority language when upgrading. The unions also presented proposals for more paid time off including vacations, sick & personal time, holidays and death in the family time. The Union also presented its wage demands calling for a "substantial wage increase"improved COLA formula, a skilled trades adjustment and a higher company match for the 401K plan.

The Company asked a number of clarification questions to better understand the Union's proposals.

A number of Locals, including Strothers KS., Salem VA., Cleveland,OH. and Louisville, KY., spoke on behalf of the proposal for more time off. They pointed out that newer members have to work 10 years with only 16 hours of Sick & Personal time, and that 2 and 3 week manadatory shutdowns at many locations eat up all of a newer member's vacation time and thus they get no time to use when they want. The Schenectady, NY. representative spoke on the proposal to shorten progression periods, especially necessary where many newer members have been hired in at lower wages. The Lynn, MA. representative went into the contractual history of the lower Night Shfit differential for new hires and about a 2006 petition from younger members in his local calling for the 10% differntial for everyone upon hire. "The $1.00 is now even a lower percentage of average pay than the $.60 was worth back in 1988 when the lousy provision was put in - it is time to get rid of these divisive provisions and bring the new members up to the 10% immediately upon hire" ,stated the Lynn representative.

The Conference Board Chairman, in closing the session, warned the Company not to make light of the Union's contract language demands as they are very important, and noted particulary important was the night shift differential issue.

On Thurdsay, May 26 GE was scheduled to make a presentation on wages but announced today that their morning presentation would be on "New Hires". That will be another hard presentation to have to sit through. In the afternoon session tomorrow, the Union will be presnting their very important Pension proposals.

Momentum for the July 7 National CBC rally in ERIE, Pa. continues to grow, in light of the Company's continued stance on Health Care and New Hires.
