If We Are Forced To Strike

Strike Benefits

Strike benefits will be $250.00($200 CWA/$50 Local 201) per week. (There are no Strike benefits for the first week of the strike but you will be receiving an AMETEK check on that Friday). Strike benefits will be increased to $350.00($300 CWA/$50 Local 201) per week beginning the 29th day of the strike. Members are expected to do picket duty to be eligible for strike benefits. You will be notified of the picket schedule. The Strike Committee favors strict accounting of picket time. If there is a hardship keeping to the schedule, contact the Strike Committee Chair (Carol Cormier) for alternate arrangements. No benefits will be paid without a strike benefit card on file.

AMETEK Medical Benefits

Technically, all AMETEK medical benefits end at the beginning of a strike. However, the Union has been successful in the past in negotiating medical benefit extensions, so that coverage has been provided for strikers and their families. If the Company cancels existing insurance coverage during the strike, the CWA will reimburse medical expenses for verified necessary medical treatment. Federal COBRA-conversion of medical benefits would also be available and reimbursed by the CWA in special situations.

Short-Term Disability

If you are out of work on Short Term Disability when a strike begins, you would continue to collect benefits until your doctor decides that you are ready to return to work. Then you would join the striking group and STD benefits would stop.

Workers Compensation

Same as STD except your workers compensation medical benefits would continue during a strike as long as your work-related injury or illness required treatment.

Dental Insurance

Dental insurance will terminate on the day before the first full day of the strike. The Union will attempt to negotiate extension of overage. If the Company cancels dental benefits, Federal COBRA-conversion will be available.

Your 401K account is available by telephone or on-line. Members can have up to two outstanding loans at a time; however, you can take only one loan in a rolling six-month period. A loan would go into default if not paid within 90 days of leaving the Company. "Default" means that the loan would be considered a withdrawal and be subject to stiff tax penalties. You should make arrangements with your landlord or bank to pay Rent and Mortgage payments. The Unions Employee Assistance Program is available to all striking members and their dependents in need of counseling. Confidentiality is assured. Contact Al McQuarrie at (781) 592-2760.

The Strike Committee Chair-Carol Cormier(AMETEK) and Co-Chair Jim Logan (GE) will be enlisting the help of the Local’s Standing Committees to organize strike support activities. Volunteers will be needed to work on a food bank, strike activities, community outreach, publicity, picket line coverage, etc. They will be actively seeking any information from our members and the community at large on other benefits available to our Union members.
