AVIS LOCAL 201 MEMBERS RATIFY NEW LABOR AGREEMENT
IUE-CWA LOCAL 201 Avis members by a vote of 74 -12 voted to ratify a new labor agreement on Thursday, July 28. The new Contract is now in place for an almost 3 year period, until April 1, 2014. The 86% acceptance vote was reported out by the Local 201 Election Committee at about 5:20PM yesterday, following a series of membership informative meetings on the provisions of the new agreement. Most voters attended one of the information sessions. However, voter turnout was relatively low with about 53% to 54% of eligible voters actually casting votes. This could have been due to a few issues, including summer vacation periods.
The IUE-CWA Avis Negotiating Committee wishes to thanks our members for their support in this difficult fight for a fair contract. This helped achieve some last second improvements that made the contract more acceptable to us. We also want to thank the many members, who signed up, to be more involved in the union and getting different communications out in the future as was discussed at the meetings. Chief Steward Jorge Rivera and Steward Eladio Quintana welcome more assistance from members. We contacted the Company to get the $1, 200 Bonus check out as soon as possible. The Company has confirmed it will be a separate check.
We would like to inform all our members that the annual Local 201 Family Day Outing is scheduled for Sunday, September 11th, at the GE Field in Lynn from 11AM to 3PM. The event is free for all Local 201 members. It is a great time with plenty of food, refreshments, prizes, music and games for the kids (and adults). Members of ALL IUE-CWA Local 201 bargaining units are invited.
