GE Contract Report - #31
NATIONAL GE CONTRACT 2011 UNOFFICIAL VOTING RESULTS
As members are aware the IUE-CWA announced that the GE Contract ratification vote of IUE-CWA GE locals was 70% to accept – 30% reject. We also know there were 34 IUE-CWA Locals voting representing almost 8,000 members (per capita). We are assuming that the 70% acceptance is a per capita percentage which is the determining factor on whether a contract is accepted or rejected in the IUE-CWA national vote. Each Local is given a per capita number based on dues paying member and all votes go in the “accept” of “reject” column based on how the majority at the local voted.
For example, Local 201 was given a 1,798 GE member per capita total for this vote (we have more GE members but people out on TLOW, disability etc. are not included in the per capital total). Our Local 201 vote was 530 to accept and 1,128 to reject. So, 1,798 votes went into the reject column.
We have not been provided any official breakdown of the different local’s votes or what was their per capita was set at by the International or Conference Board. We have put in a request to the Conference to know how many locals voted to reject and also (out of pure interest) what the national “popular vote” (those actually voting) was compared to the per capita tally. To date, we have not received that information.
We have had to piece together information from numerous sources, which included web sites, internet chatter, phone calls, public newspapers etc. We cannot vouch for the accuracy of the information below but we would be surprised if it was way off.
Unofficial Reports IUE-CWA Locals (Lynn totals are official)
Below are the 5 largest IUE-CWA locations per capita and carry the most weight in voting results The acceptance votes by Louisville, Schenectady and Strothers alone, come close to the approx. 4,000 per capita votes needed to ratify (if in fact they do not actually put it over that mark). To the contrary as an example, had Louisville voted to reject the Contract- there would have been a majority rejection per capita vote (when added to the locals that did indeed reject below.)
Bigger Locals
Louisville, KY – 69% acceptance
Lynn, MA – 68% rejection (official)
Schnectady, NY - 68% acceptance
Strothers, KA – 67% acceptance
Madisonville, KY – 63% rejection
Some Smaller locals
Salem VA. – 72% acceptance
Bucyrus OH -85% acceptance
Los Angeles/SD CA. – 50% split vote (tie)
Evansville, Ind. - 80% rejection
(Note: There are another 25 locals that voted which are relatively small or service shops that we do not have even unofficial vote results from)
